Marple combines text with image to create emotionally evocative work. All My Pretty Follies borrows a phrase from the poem "I think I should have loved you presently" by Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950), which is written on the back of the work. The phrase is combined with an image of a kitten to change the context of Millay's words from that of romantic yearning to that of self-reflection about innocence and imperfection. Marple uses airbrush to create the illusion of the words and images appearing as their own light source, as they might on a screen or neon. Merging the digital and physical is a key part of her practice as an artist, writer, and curator.
